Peak Hill – Timeline
Peak Hill Gold Mine – Central West NSW
1880  Gold discovered at Tomingley (18km North of Peak Hill)
1888  "New Rush"  Discovery 5km North of Peak Hill
1889  Alluvial Gold discovered at Peak Hill on 3rd August
1890  13,000 ounces of alluvial gold had been won.  Golden Hole discovered on 11th September.  Population of 9,000 in Peak Hill
1892  100 alluvial miners and 250 quartz miners at Peak Hill
1896  Alluvial mining exhausted.
1904  A rock breaker and cyanide vats erected at the Bobby Burns Mine.
1895  The Crown of Peak Hill was down 300 feet
1896  Proprietary Mine produced 4,246 tons ore yielding 1,858 oz.
1900  Air drills being used at McPhail, Tomingley
1903  Mining was suspended for six months due to lack of water.
1904  Myalls Company (Tomingley) and the Peak Hill Proprietary Gold Mines Company amalgamated to form Myalls and Peak Hill Gold                 Mines Limited.
1906  An electric Lighting plant was installed
1910  Winding engine and head gear were transferred from the company’s leases at McPhail.
1912  The total number of men employed averaged 88, not including wood cutters and carters.
1914  Peak Hill Proprietary Mining Co purchased by Transvaal and Rhodesian Estates Ltd.
1917  The yield for 1917 was 2,970 oz. of gold worth 10,142 pounds.  The mine employed 44 men and had machinery of the value of                10,855 pounds.
1918  The mine closed down and sold off machinery.
1919  Cyaniding of tailings re-commenced.
1957  Fossicker Alan Stain found 18 ounces of gold buried on Peak Hill Golf course.  Parker Brothers sunk a shaft 18 feet on a
           3 Ft-wide vein near Bobby Burns.
1993  Alkane Exploration NL & associated Gold Fields NL are granted approvals for mining.
1996  Alkane Exploration NL develops Peak Hill Gold Mine, first production blast April.
2002  Alkane Exploration Ltd completed mining operations.  Processing continues.
