MAP 1: The 1886 atlas map covering the west of the Gold Trails from Kiandra up to Parkes.

In 1886 a “New Atlas of Australia” was published that provides us with an invaluable reference source from which to appreciate the extent and significance of the goldfields of central and south west NSW by the mid 1880s.

You can use this resource in conjunction with your present day maps to begin to appreciate how travel across the gold trails landscapes has changed since the late 1800s.

You can also use them in tandem with the chronology section of this website to identify and locate the various towns, villages and gold fields that were the subject of debate as reported in the local newspapers of the day.
