Gundaroo Heritage buildings

A stunning example of living history with today’s lifestyles sensitively blended with a lovingly preserved past, the heritage listed 19th century village of Gundaroo is a unique modern community.

A place for walking and discovering, you’ll find shady verandas’ on old cottages and the photogenic textures of slab huts, wattle and daub, irregular stone and locally fired brick.

A community-inspired ‘River Walk’ offers visitors an opportunity to stroll from the western extremity of Rosamel Street south to the rear of Gundaroo Park. The park itself is a venue for cricket and soccer and the town’s October music festival.

The past comes alive with many of Gundaroo’s historic buildings still in use. The distinctive corner Royal Hotel has become Grazing, one of the region’s most acclaimed restaurants, with its many rooms still featuring the character of 1865 with five fireplaces to warm diners but with a creative modern stone extension and kitchen garden.

Stop to meet locals in the one-time Star Saloon Bar and Matt Crowe’s 19th century wine bar, now the Colonial Inn with its relaxing restaurant, acclaimed smoked meats and stock of local wines and fine beers.

Quality coffee and pizza is served in the Cork Street Café, once the local police stables and lock-up.
